About the College
Shri Guru Teg Bahadur College, Sathiala, is located on the Jalandhar-Batala road, near the historically significant town of Baba Bakala. This esteemed institution stands on the sacred land associated with the Ninth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. Far from the noise and distractions of urban life, the college boasts an iconic arch-shaped building, an expansive open campus, lush green surroundings, and a serene natural environment hallmarks of its tranquil and inspiring setting.
The credit for the establishment of this prestigious institution goes to the visionary efforts of Baba Budh Singh Ji, whose selfless dedication and extraordinary contributions of mind, body, and wealth led to the founding of National College Sathiala in 1955. Baba Ji’s spirit of service, shaped by his experiences in Malaysia and his association with the freedom struggle under Subhash Chandra Bose, inspired him to invest in the cause of education. Through his relentless efforts, 88 acres of land were secured for the college, with the village of Sathiala alone donating 55 acres.
The college has since served as a beacon of knowledge and opportunity, empowering countless students to achieve distinguished positions in administrative services, politics, and other fields. It has also been a vibrant hub for cultural and political activities, shaping well-rounded individuals with a sense of social responsibility.
In April 1967, recognizing the evolving needs of the institution, its management was entrusted to the Sikh Education Society, Jalandhar. Subsequently, on 16th December 1974, with the initiative of the renowned politician Sohan Singh Jalalusma and the diligent efforts of college teacher Karta Ram Ji, the institution transitioned from private management to government administration. It was then renamed Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Government College, Sathiala.
A significant milestone in the college’s journey came in July 2011 when, in recognition of its exemplary academic performance, the Punjab Government handed over its administration to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. As a constituent college of the university, it was renamed Shri Guru Teg Bahadur College, Sathiala. Under the management of Guru Nanak Dev University, the college has seen a paradigm shift, with the introduction of diverse courses tailored to contemporary needs. Alongside traditional programs, new skill development courses have been initiated to equip students with practical expertise for the modern world.
